I dig OpenSSO (long live OpenSSO)

If you know me, you know I did a lot of work using OpenSSO during this past year. Among other things, OpenSSO lets you provide single sign-on services for a variety of websites, which is what I was contracted to do earlier this year.

Here’s a description of OpenSSO from their website:

The Open Web SSO project (OpenSSO) provides core identity services to simplify the implementation of transparent single sign-on (SSO) as a security component in a network infrastructure. OpenSSO provides the foundation for integrating diverse web applications that might typically operate against a disparate set of identity repositories and are hosted on a variety of platforms such as web and application servers.

With Oracle buying up Sun I’m afraid OpenSSO might meet an untimely death, but I hope that’s not the case. It is a terrific open source project. I just read that Pat Patterson is no longer as involved in OpenSSO as he was, and if that’s because of Oracle, that’s a real bummer.

(This is all just my concern. I have no idea that Oracle will do anything bad to a great project like this. That would be really bad for their reputation.)
